The Journal of Runark, Day 1

Stopped at Bryn Shander today. I was eating cooked knucklehead trout for lunch at the Northlook when a dwarf approached me for a job. She introduced herself as Hlin and brought me to meet three other mercenaries, Grav, Thana, and Keeneye. The job was simple: find a killer who struck at Bryn Shander, Easthaven, and Targos. The payment was a hundred gold to be split among ourselves. Even if I wasn’t broke, I knew I had to follow through. The Ten-Towns are my home, and I’ll protect them even in this endless winter.

Introductions are made, and we investigated the first murder at Bryn Shandar. Victim was a dwarf glassblower who stayed at a boarding house. Turns out he was trying to avoid being sacrificed to Auril, as towns such as Bryn Shander had resorted to. I despise these sacrifices and the killer even more.

Met more dwarves afterwards. They were ambushed by a yeti while transporting a sled of iron ingots to town. Grav in particular was interested in the yeti before the dwarves revealed that they were  offering gemstones if we could recover the ingots and deliver them to Blackiron Blades in Bryn Shander. My companions agreed to take the detour to help them.

Caught in a blizzard outside of Bryn Shander. We hunker down and let it pass. Afterwards, we found a dead dwarf on the road. No yeti, no sled, no ingots, just tracks that led south. We follow the tracks to the sled, which was stolen by goblins. A group of goblins pushed the sled towards their wagon pulled by two polar bears, where more goblins were. My companions charged forward. I stayed back and let loose my arrows with my bow. The goblins at the sled fell, and those at the wagon burnt it down and fled.

Freed the polar bears, fed them, and they went on their way. Companions searched the wagon, but nothing of value could be found. We took the ingots back to Blackiron Blades and were paid for our effort. With gold, I didn’t have to worry about freezing to death camping outside and could rent a room at the Northlook, where my companions rested for the night as well.

There’s still a killer to be caught. We’ll travel to Targos tomorrow morning. Heard a rumor in town that other adventures were trying to find Oyaminartok. I’d very much like to meet her again, but that remains to be seen.
