The Journal of Runark, Day 2

Traveled to Targos. It’s a decently sized town, not as big as Bryn Shander but it had plenty of people. We continued our investigation and met with the captain, Skath. He told us that the victim was trying to escape from the sacrifices Targos performed, much like the one from Bryn Shander. There’s the trend.

Afterwards, we traveled to Bremen to follow a rumor of a monster in the Maer Douldon. I wanted to see about the adventurers looking for Oyaminartok but the others weren’t interested. I’ll find her eventually, with or without the others looking.

Bremen’s a smaller town but had fishing. When investigating the rumors of the monster in the lake, we met with one dwarf in charge of the fishers who recruited us to fish for knucklehead trout in exchange for copper coins. We agreed so we could get to the lake. I wanted to help the people of Bremen and knucklehead trout are good for eating. A half-elf named Tali recruited us to study the creature the people were talking about and to bring notes to them at the Buried Treasure Inn.

We took rowboats to the Maer Douldon, Grav and Thana in one boat, and I was with Keeneye in the other. Fishing was good for some of us at least. I fished up two trouts as did Grav. Thana and Keeneye did not catch any.

The monster came for us. It was a beast but not one that I knew of. It attacked our boats and dived low so we couldn’t attack. I pulled out my bow to strike and landed a few hits even when it was submerged. Grav and Keeneye made the risk to jump into the freezing water to engage it in a melee battle. They killed it. I thought that it tried to run when they did. It did have some intelligence to it but maybe I was wrong.

The dwarf paid us some copper for the trout we brought back and Tali gave us a few gold coins along with a shared meal at the inn. The rewards were measly in all consideration but I wouldn’t pass on free food. It’s hard enough to survive on my own.

The innkeeper, Cora, told us her story while we ate. Her son, Huarwar, was nearly killed due to frostbite, and after he recovered, he became ill-mannered. Cora spoke of how she found a shard of black ice in his room and that he joined two tieflings to Caer-Konig. My companions agreed to find him especially as we found out that our potential suspect was heading there.

We asked for rumors throughout the day and found another connection. A merchant named Torg led her company through Bryn Shander and Targos at the time of the murders. She was a good lead and word has it she is at Caer-Konig. We made it back to Targos and stopped at the Luskan Arms to rest.
